CBTS Aug 2013 – Present
Backup Engineer III
Springdale, OH
L3 escalation and backup architecture across enterprise, multi-tenant, and large customer environments spanning NetBackup, Veeam, and Commvault.
Key Initiatives
  • Multi-Tenant NetBackup Management (2013–2018) — Administered NetBackup across three enterprise customers: a hospital environment (~400 devices), a financial services customer with a hot/hot DR site, and an additional qualified tenant.
  • Financial Services SLA Performance (2014–2017) — Sustained 99.9% success across 12,000+ SQL-heavy backup jobs per month for 3 years in a high-availability hot/hot environment.
  • Veeam Backup-as-a-Service Buildout (2018–Present) — Built and managed a Veeam Cloud Connect BaaS offering: 10 tenants via Cloud Connect plus 3 dedicated Backup & Replication environments, ~2PB / 350 servers combined. Expanded into Commvault administration and Avamar support alongside this.
  • Energy Sector Environment (2019–Present) — Manage a dedicated Veeam Backup & Replication environment for an energy sector customer: ~500 VMs, 2PB footprint.
  • Alerting & CMDB Automation (2021–Present) — Designed automated alerting and reporting between backup platform and CMDB using Bocada, cutting false-alert volume by 60%. Currently auditing CI tagging accuracy between CMDB and backup product to further improve data integrity.
Ongoing Responsibilities
  • Coordinate vendor and stakeholder response for critical incidents, upgrades, and hardware replacements, including HP Storage component swaps.
  • Optimize backup performance across SAN, NAS, and object storage, applying TCP/IP and firewall knowledge for reliable data transport.
  • Mentor L1/L2 engineers on data protection best practices; provide recurring reporting and audit support for customers.
  • Supporting emerging disaster recovery replication scope using Zerto, alongside core backup platform responsibilities.
  • On-call for P1/P2 incidents using ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management.
